This is such a beautiful winter activity to do and you need very little resources to make them. Make as many as you want and watch them glow and twinkle. Forage sprigs and leaves from your garden or when you are out on a winter walk, look for fallen leaves, berries and twigs to decorate your lantern.
We bought some plastic tubs and cups from our local Pound store, but you can easily use empty yogurt pots and beakers. Just make sure that you have one smaller that fits inside the larger one, as you’ll need to plave your leaves and twigs around the outside and have enough room to pour water.
Place your foraged finds in between the tub and cup. We used the sprigs from our Christmas Tree and fallen Olive leaves, but you can use anything that you like.
You’ll need to weigh the inner cup down so that it doesn’t float. We used a large pebble.
Pour water in-between the cup and tub.
Leave them somewhere where they can freeze overnight. If you are lucky enough to live somewhere where the winter temperatures drop significantly enough to freeze them, you’ll be fine with leaving them outside. We had to freeze ours in the freezer as our climate was cold but not enough for them to freeze naturally.
Place your frozen tubs in a bowl of lukewarm water to help ease them out of their containers. Then pop a tealight inside and enjoy the beauty of your creation.
Happy Winter wishes 2018.
